I’ve been designing websites for a while now and I’ve learned quite a bit about what makes good website design. I’ve compiled a few of my top website design tips for you below to check out!
These tips are curated for website designers who are just starting out!
When linking to an outside website, set the website link to “open in a new window“. This is a great way to make sure your audience stays on your website instead of completely leaving. You want your audience to stay on your website as long as possible, right?
No need to have internal links open in a new window.
There’s a good chance that most of your audience is browsing your website from their phone, so it’s so important to make sure the mobile website design is optimized.
Your audience needs to be able to easily navigate around your website from their phones. If it’s too difficult, they’re bound to leave your website.
Keep the text on your website in small chunks. This makes it so much easier to read and consume. I’ll tell you, no one wants to or will read long paragraphs of text. A lot of people skim through websites so making small pieces of text is best.
Optimize the images on your website. Having large-sized images can really slow down a website. There are many websites that will compress your images for you for free. My favorite is tinypng.com.
My last tip is to make sure your branding is consistent throughout your website. All of the web pages should easily flow together and look cohesive. Need a brand refresh? Checkout my branding services!
