I didn’t always know I wanted to become a website designer, but I did get an interest in graphic design back in high school. I loved magazines and the mix of images and text. I also just liked to make pretty things, aesthetic things.
In college, I majored in graphic design but never ended up graduating. But that didn’t stop me from pursuing my dreams!
Keep reading to find out how I became a website designer.

I would definitely say that becoming a website designer was a transitional process. While I was at my 9 to 5 job, I started doing Pinterest managing. I would design pins and schedule them for clients. But after a while, it got very monotonous and it wasn’t enjoyable anymore.
So I slowly transitioned into designing branding for small businesses. This is something I love and still do today!
While I was designing branding for clients, I wondered how hard could it be to design a website? I had been using website templates that other people had made, and it was always fun customizing them.
But then I realized I didn’t know how to code. That might be an issue. And did I want to spend the time learning how to code? I felt like that would take forever.
Then Showit came into my life, and it changed the game for me!
I learned that you didn’t need to know how to code to use Showit. Everything was drag and drop. You literally click on an image or text and move it to wherever you want. Showit made it so easy!
I signed up for Showit’s free 14-day trial and started playing around with all of the features. Once I realized how easy it was to use and how customizable it was, even for beginners, I decided to switch my own website over from WordPress to Showit. Even that was easy to do.
Once I got my own website designed to how I liked it, I started to design a website template. I chose to create a website template for photographers, so I gathered some stock photos from Unsplash and Pexels to use since they are free for commercial use.
When I finished designing that website template, I created 2 more and them I added them to my own website to try and sell.
I sell my templates on my own website, Etsy, and Creative Market. It’s important to have multiple streams of income and this is a great way to do that. As the saying goes, don’t put all your eggs into one basket.
When I got comfortable designing website templates, I decided I was ready to offer web design as a service to clients. I was nervous about designing custom websites, but was excited to work with clients to help them grow their business with an aesthetic and strategic website made just for them!
At this point in my website designer career (oh and I had quit my 9-5 job at this point!), I knew I wanted to scale my business and increase my income!
